CCC Update:
First, the USDA has confirmed that $500 million in TEFAP food purchases announced last year to be funded by the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) have been permanently canceled. This amounts to $4.7 million dollars worth of food for the state of Washington and cancelled loads include items like frozen protein, canned protein, dried fruits and milk. We understand the significant impact this will have on the network’s food supply, and we will continue advocating for additional CCC purchases to support food banks and U.S. farmers. Please note, these TEFAP cancellations affect only CCC-funded supplemental food purchases. There is no disruption to TEFAP entitlement food purchases and Section 32 bonus buys.

LFPA Update:

WSDA received notification from USDA that while the LFPA and LFPA Plus funds and grant agreements would be honored, “new” LFPA25 funding for 2025-2027 that had been issued to Washington State has been terminated. The terminated LFPA25 funds totaled $8,494,890 from CCC Act funding. 

State Budget Update:
Thank you to everyone who joined us in sending the letter to state lawmakers, urging them to protect food bank funding in the 2025-27 state operating budget proposals. Your efforts paid off! Last Monday, both the House and Senate released their budget proposals, each including the full $93.25M requested by WSDA. On Tuesday, Aaron, our Director of Policy and Advocacy, testified before both committees to reaffirm our position and express our gratitude for removing food bank funding cuts from consideration. While there is still a process to go through before the final budget is voted on, both proposals rely on new taxes aimed at the wealthiest to prevent deeper cuts to existing programs and services. We will keep you updated and let you know when further action is needed.
